This story is for those who think they can’t do it. That it is not the right time now. That there is not enough money yet. Maybe later… This is a story about the Single Handed Sailor. And be caucious, this story could change your life.
Dustin Reynolds, a typical guy from Hawaii. Sailing singlehanded around the world with only one hand and one leg.
Ten years ago he was driving a motorbike and was hit by a drunk truck driver. And lost a leg and an arm. Before he had lived a normal American upper middle class live. House, car, boat, motorbike, business. His insurance company didn’t pay for his medical treatment. They sued him for 450 thousand dollar. He went bankrupt and somehow found a way to buy a boat for $ 12,000.
“I watched a video on YouTube, read some books to learn sailing. And off I went around the world. With one hand and one leg.” His budget does not allow to install a selftailing winch on the mast. “But I still have teeth,” says Dustin. He earns extra money wherever he can. And he is supported by friends and cruisers through crowdfunding.
We met him in Madagascar, recorded an interview and went out to sea with him for a day. He’s an incredible sunny guy. A guy with a unbelievable energy and a desire to live.
