DESIGN & HERITAGE
Patrick Luscher designed the Looping catamarans to be simple, strong, light, and fast — built with a sailor’s mind and an engineer’s precision.
Before turning to yacht design, he worked at Airbus, specializing in light-structure optimization — experience that defined his focus on efficiency and low-resistance hull shapes. This approach gave rise to a family of catamarans (42–60 ft) renowned for their speed, seaworthiness, and elegance.
Looping 45 performance cruising catamaran carries that DNA forward — lightweight yet strong, efficient yet graceful — a true performance cruiser built for real ocean passagemaking.
PERFORMANCE
Designed for light, stiff, and easily driven hulls, Umadum delivers excellent passagemaking speeds. From our own logbook, in steady trade-wind conditions she consistently covers 180–200 nm per day without effort.
The self-tacking jib makes short-handed sailing simple, while the gennaker and spinnaker extend her range in light airs. With a sail area-to-displacement ratio comparable to the finest performance cruising cats, Umadum delivers high daily averages and accelerates smoothly into the low teens.
Like all Loopings, Umadum is a true one-off — built to Luscher’s plans but refined through individual craftsmanship and the owner’s vision. Fast, seaworthy, and beautifully balanced, she was designed to take her crew far and fast, with ease and confidence.
Ease of Handling
All sail controls lead to the helm, making Umadum perfectly suited for short-handed or even solo sailing. Reefing, trimming, and furling can all be managed safely from the cockpit — a true sailor’s design that values simplicity, efficiency, and control.
BUILD & STRUCTURE
Strip-planked red cedar hulls fully glassed in epoxy deliver an excellent strength-to-weight ratio and are easy to inspect and repair worldwide. Mini-keels – laminated marine plywood sheathed in fiberglass and epoxy.
Hulls are sealed and odor-free (no bilges to maintain).
Bulkheads are glassed to hull and bridgedeck; the bridgedeck shows no stress-cracks after multiple ocean crossings (confirmed during survey and our 10-year ownership).
Bridgedeck — marine plywood + fiberglass.
High bridgedeck clearance minimizes slamming and enhances comfort in a seaway.
Forward collision bulkheads and separate engine compartments provide watertight integrity.
Umadum sails efficiently without daggerboards — the long mini-keels preserve honest upwind ability while avoiding the complexity, drag and maintenance of lifting boards. A simple, robust and truly bluewater-proof solution.
With her long, slender hulls, excellent bridgedeck clearance and centered weight, Umadum delivers high daily averages with ease and comfort.

She came out of the boatyard refreshed, clean, and ready to sail.

• Cockpit: Sheltered by a solid roof, offering excellent sun and rain protection — perfect for tropical cruising.
Umadum was built for real life at sea — bright saloon with panoramic views, a galley-up layout, and thoughtful storage throughout. Her interior is bright, functional, and elegant, with an ergonomic design that makes her easy for a couple or even solo sailors to live aboard comfortably on long passages.
Excellent natural airflow keeps the interior cool and dry, even in the tropics. Structural ventilation and a passive air-intake system built into the hulls maintain a constant, fresh breeze with almost no energy use.
The saloon offers a spacious L-shaped sofa, a dining area with panoramic visibility, and a proper nav station. The galley opens directly onto the cockpit — a practical liveaboard configuration that works equally well at anchor and underway.
Like all Loopings, Umadum balances speed, safety, and comfort — fast when you want her to be, peaceful when you slow down. Umadum keeps sailing even in gentle winds, which means more quiet days without the engine — one of the simple joys of a light, efficient Looping.VOYAGING HISTORY
Umadum has a story.
Before we owned her, she had already completed a remarkable journey:
She sailed from Europe, crossed the Atlantic to the Caribbean, returned to Europe, then slowly made her way across the Atlantic again and the Pacific Ocean, all the way to Asia — Thailand, where we found her, fell in love, and made her our home.
We bought her in 2014 and set sail from Malaysia — chasing a dream, not a route.
Over the next 8 years, we crossed the Indian Ocean, sailed along the coast of Africa, crossed the South Atlantic, reached the Caribbean, and eventually arrived in Panama, taking our time and embracing the journey.
Our plan was to continue into the Pacific — but health issues of the captain made us pause.
And so, with a heavy heart but deep gratitude, we are now offering Umadum to someone ready to write her next chapter.
When Günther first saw the boat in Thailand, he brought in a professional surveyor. The boat was hauled out and carefully inspected. The surveyor looked at the hulls, paused, and said:
“That’s a good boat. You should take her.”
Günther blinked. “That’s it? That’s the full survey?”
The surveyor smiled:
“No, not all. But I’ve never seen a catamaran with zero cracks between the hulls and the bridgedeck.”
That’s the kind of build we’re talking about.
WHAT NEEDS WORK
We believe in full transparency and want future owners to have a clear, honest picture of Umadum.
Because of the captain’s health, we had to leave Panama earlier than planned, and the boat has not been prepared for sale in the usual “showroom” way.
And as every sailor knows, on every there is always something to do. Umadum is no exception: a few expected maintenance items are waiting for attention.
Rather than listing these publicly, we prefer to discuss the details personally, so you can have the full context behind each point. Nothing is hidden — we simply believe these conversations belong one-on-one, where we can answer real questions clearly and honestly.
If you’re seriously considering Umadum, we’ll walk you through everything: what is essential, what is optional, and what we would recommend before longer passages.
Our goal is to give you the same clarity and confidence we would want if we were in your place.
PRICE & WHAT’S INCLUDED
We are offering Umadum at €250,000, below the typical market value for Looping performance catamarans of this size and pedigree. This price already includes a careful reduction based on the estimated cost of upcoming maintenance items.
We have run the calculations thoroughly, and we are confident that the amount deducted more than covers all foreseeable expenses.
We believe that’s more than enough to comfortably cover the needed repairs and upgrades — while still giving you a rare and remarkable vessel.
